Teacher Licensure

General admission requirements: 56 semester hours of completed work with a 2.75 GPA overall and in French; experience working with youth; demonstration of basic skills; 40 hours of liberal arts courses with at least 6 credits each in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences; $20 fee; written personal statement; letter of recommendation.Teaching field courses: French requirements are 30 semester hours in French and 6 hours in a related field (i.e., Linguistics, Political Science, History, etc.), all at the 3000 level or above.

REQUIRED COURSES FOR SECONDARY EDUCATION LICENSURE:

FRENCH COURSES*:

  • FREN 3010 – French Phonetics and Pronunciation (3 sem hrs)
  • FREN 3050/3060 – Grammar and Composition I,II (6 sem hrs)
  • FREN 3100 – Critical Reading & Writing in French Literature (3 sem hrs)
  • FREN 3110/3120 – Survey of Literature I,II (6 sem hrs)
  • FREN 3500 – Current Events (or study abroad in France) (3 sem hrs)
  • FREN 4750 – Methods of Teaching French (3 sem hrs)
  • FREN 4960 – Supervised H.S. French Teaching (6 sem hrs)
  • Two other courses at the 3000 or 4000 level (1 literature, 1 culture) (6 sem hrs)

TOTAL SEMESTER HOURS = 33
